Calif. Gay Marriage Bill Moves Forward

The Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday voted in favor legislation that would allow same-sex couples to marry.

The committee voted 5 - 2 to advance the measure.

The bill still needs approval by a second committee before moving to the full Senate, but today's action has breathed new life into the measure which only weeks ago was considered dead.

wasn't that amended to define marriage as between man & woman ?

The California state constitution has not been amended to outlaw marriage equality. There was a state prop (22) that passed in 2000 that made it state law to only recognize marriages preformed in other states that are between one man and one woman.

There is a group now trying to amend the constitution to outlaw marriage equality as well as domestic partner benefits.
