Chicago GOP Disavows Gay Games

All five Republicans on the Cook County board have withdrawn their names from a routine proclamation welcoming the 2006 Gay Games to Chicago.

Their action came after conservative groups complained that the GOP commissioners were alienating their political base and follows a series of attacks by Christian conservatives on companies sponsoring next year's games.

"There's a big difference between tolerating and celebrating homosexuality," said Peter LaBarbera, leader of the Illinois Family Institute. "For governments to be using taxpayer money and big corporations spending money to sponsor this, we think the average Joe sees that as being just a little bit off."

the LaBarbarian fascist group - and to keep pounding away at that connection until they have to repeatedly deny this connection.

This was nothing but a welcome resolution for athletes. I suggest the Democratic commissioners offer a resolution before the Board unwelcoming the five Republican board members from the County Board AND their districts.
