Antigay psychologist says gays more likely to drink and drive

A psychologist who has been accused of doctoring his research to promote his antigay agenda is at it again, this time with a study that links homosexuality to drunk driving. If you're gay, according to psychologist Paul Cameron, you're twice as likely as straight people to drink and drive. Cameron published those findings in the June issue of Psychological Reports, based on data from the 1996 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse.

Susan Cochran is a psychologist and epidemiologist in the School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2000 she published a paper looking at alcohol use in people who reported same-sex activity, based on the same data Cameron used. But she did not get the same results. She says Cameron makes inaccurate assumptions. "He's taking people who report same-gender sexual partners and treating them as is they are lesbian, gay, or bisexual. In fact, some of these individuals are, but we know from other surveys that perhaps as many as half of these people, if you asked them, would say that they're heterosexual."

2. Asking a question that is threatening...
is the kiss of death for any type of self report survey. In 1998, we did a study of religious participation, using a random representative sample, and defined the respondents by sexual behavior. We could not define orientation, only behavior. If this idiot thinks that people would answer questions like what she is discussing, and answer them truthfully, she needs a course in research design.

3. What an idiot!
I refuse to drink and drive. If I have just one drink I refuse to drive, yet several people I know who are heterosexual do drink and drive.

I don't think drinking and driving is a het thing or a gay thing. I think it is more of a state of mind thing.

4. All these right-wing witch doctors...
are just coming out of nowhere lately. The Dobson anti-gay ranting would be humorous if it wasn't so deeply disturbing and scary. This attack on real science is getting a little bit scary.

:scared: :grr: :argh:

6. Here a whole lot of info on Paul Cameron ...
http://www.qrd.org/qrd/www/RRR/cameron.html

His brand of quackery has been around for years and even got him tossed out of the APA for faulty research methods and doctored results. But this is the type of "science" the gulible fun-D'uh-MENTAL-ist sheep gooble up and spit back to "prove" their points.

7. What a swine. He should be defrocked or whatever they do to
paychologists. Actually , his license should be revoked. This is ridiculous anyhow. These studies are just that. Someone declares that so and so does such and such more than anyone else. That is just their opinion. I am quite long in the tooth and have seen "studies" reversed many times through the years. They don't know a damn thing. Besides his filthy papers are written for the rightwing fanatics.

8. I think Psychological Reports is the only publication
that will touch Cameron's work. . .and their mission is to try to help researchers better develop their ability to gather information using scientific methods. As you can see, Cameron's rather long career hasn't improved his ability nor tempered his obsession with gays.

What most people don't understand yet is that what gay person in their right mind would ever subject themselves to being a subject for ANY research by one of these people?
