Gay Foe Quits Ft. Lauderdale School Committee - Blames Gay Pressure
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/08/081505FtLaud.htm

A member of the Broward School District's diversity committee who said gays "are trying to mess with our kids' minds and introduce all kinds of activities in the name of tolerance,'' has resigned.

Steve Kane made the remark during a May committee meeting that was considering the use in schools of the video We Are Family that features SpongeBob SquarePants and other cartoon characters.

The video promotes diversity and shows a variety of cartoon families but does not specifically mention gays. The committee ended up rejecting the video saying it could lead children to be less wary of stangers.

boo freaking hoo

2. It begs the question ...
how the fuck did some knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing Neanderthal like Kane get on a diversity committee in the first place?

5. Good point ... however ...

... I'm assuming the members of the committee in Florida were appointed by the school board rather than elected by voters. If the school district has an policy of inculsion for LGBT students, how did they manage to appoint a far-right wingnut to the council? Was he a "stealth" appointee? Or did they know about his background in advance?

In Kansas, the state board members were elected ... largely because moderate Republicans and liberals ignored the primary election while the religious right already knew who "their" candidates were and made sure their people made it onto the ballot under the radar of moderates and liberals.

6. I read someplace, forgot where, that 65% of kansas supports the
IDiot curric. with which they plan to brainwash their youngsters.

We both are stabbing in the dark about Florida - except from previous experience, they have some strange ways in govt., even stranger than Louisiana (no offense to LA-folks intended)

Considering that the textbook wars, the school board election wars and the ID push is (and has been for a decade) national in scope, I would not be surprised at anything as to how this guy made it on. It was only us who missed the boat 10 yrs ago when they started their campaign.

4. I have one child still in this school system...
Good riddance to Steve Kane.

"... gays 'are trying to mess with our kids' minds and introduce all kinds of activities in the name of tolerance...'"

Like what activities? I WANT my kid to learn that it's okay for people to be different. I WANT him to know that different is just that - different, not better, not worse, just different.

These are basic values that have nothing to do with religion or politics. They involve ALL people being treated as equals, with something valuable to contribute to society.
