Man Sentenced to 30 Years in Son's Death (he didn't want a 'sissy')

A man who told friends he didn't want his 3-year-old son to become a sissy was sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing the boy by slamming his head into a kitchen wall just weeks after the child's return home from foster care.

Ronnie Paris, 22, was sentenced Friday after convictions last month for second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

His son, Ronnie, died Jan. 28, six days after the boy slipped into a coma with swelling on both sides of his brain.

Several witnesses testified during Paris' trial that he sometimes got rough with the toddler while play fighting and told friends his father had raised him to be tough and he planned to raise Ronnie the same way because he didn't want a "sissy" for a son.

4. Probably claimed it was an accident

"My boy's sissy little head was softer than I had thought," sobbed Ronnie paris, 22, at the sentencing. "I had done oughta raised him tougher sooner, only he was in foster care, an so I couldn't do enough fast enough. I reckon the sissification of my boy done made him so weak and vulnerable that he just couldn't take the same force of blows to the head a normal boy could take."

I agree, should be life. "I slammed the little boy's head into the wall a bit harder than I had intended" is not a defense.

6. When it's a murder involving family members

Sentences are typically far less than they would be for stranger homicides. Part of it, IMHO, stems from the idea that men (who constitute the vast majority of perpetrators of family violence) have the right to do with their "property" as they wish. And only recently did the law not consider women and children property.

5. I am glad he got 30 years

He deserved life but this is acceptable especially given the fact that prision will be very rough for this man.
