Embattled Ft Lauderdale Diversity Committee Gets Reprieve

The Broward School Board has backed off from a threat to suspend meetings of its Diversity Committee despite continuing concerns that some members are promoting homophobia.

The controversy began earlier this summer when the 19 member committee was considering the use in county schools of the video "We Are Family" that features SpongeBob SquarePants and other cartoon characters.

Although the video never mentions gays or same-sex families several committee members accused the Anti Defamation League of promoting homosexuality.
