Saw a woman at the bar tonight that I used to drive cab with.

Never got to know her real well, but I pulled her aside tonight to affirm we knew each other. She bought me a drink and a shot to help fulfill her $20 minimum on her credit card. She showed me a pic of her wife, which she does wear a ring for. I congratulated her and asked if they had gone somewhere they could make it "legal". She sadly replied no, and I expressed how disgusted I was with our supposedly liberal state of NY. She agreed there were too many radical Republicans here to ever really get progressive ideals going. She then mentioned she was a moderate Republican. Don't think I've ever met another one in a Grateful Dead T-shirt before save for another friend of mine. Not sure why I'm sharing this. Just an encounter. A connection. An understanding between two people that we are indeed all the same when you strip away all the shit.

5. I hope they answer you, because we both know it was highly likely they felt it was against whatever

religion they had. I am a Christian, and the amount of people I've heard tear down Gay people is amazing in the church, yet, there's plenty who don't, who support and affirm our rights and acceptance that we are who we are because God made us that way. I lost a dear close friend who I believe became an 'ex-gay' and I feel they're trapped in that horrible bubble of guilt over their sexual orientation.

Thanks for asking, because I think that's an important question.

Met her at the bar & took her home. She looked like a hippie and dressed like a hippie, sang and played guitar like a hippie, but turned out she was a republican and believed all the RW talking points. I couldn't believe it! I asked her how in the fuck can there be such a thing as a Republican hippie?

We wound up fighting about politics all the time, which ruined what might have been a good thing.

I love genuine hippie women though! You know...liberal, under-arm hair, dreadlocks, yum! :smoke:

8. Gay Republicans

A gay friend of mine said once that the majority of gays would be republicans except for the GOP position on homosexuality. Economically they tend to lean very right. And since they are often forced to live very singular lives in many ways, the whole "individual responsibility" schtick resonates with many of them. I often had to point out that if the gay community weren't forced to be separate within society, many of the reasons they lean GOP probably wouldn't exist.

10. I went to college with that guy from Log Cabin Republicans.

Though he was pleasant enough on a personal level, he used to take a lot of heat for being Republican from other gay people. And frankly, I think he deserved it, since at that time, Republicans were basically fine with throwing gay people in jail.
