here is my math

premise 1: all homophobes are gay

depending on the issue: 30- 50% of the population can support homophobic stances (gay marriage, dadt, gay adoption etc)

Therefore my conclusion is that 40-50% of americans are gay + the 5-10% who are already out & gay

Those are my conclusions for the US

For other countries:

Uganda: 85% gay

Saudi Arabia: 98% gay

Iran: 85% gay

so many gays, so little time

Seriously - between women, gays, and ethnic/racial "minorities," we're a majority. I mean, sure, gay and minority women are counted twice in the percentage totals, but there are gay and minority men, so that's gotta cancel out to some degree.

I know, let's start a stealth "equality" movement for straight white males. I demand that they be hired and promoted at the same percentages as their percentage of the population. It's only fair!

You're right of course, it's absurd to assert that being a "homophobe" must mean "gay" - although, I don't doubt that some homophobes are un-self-aware gays desperately trying to avoid coming to terms with their sexuality. But the majority, I'd guess you're right, most homophobes aren't gay, they're just mean-spirited little assholes.

When I see the threads and posts on the GD board that hiss such nonsense over and over, I just shake my head. It's a ridiculous meme, and one that should not be tolerated on DU, IMO, any more than opposition to gay marriage.

Homophobia has many faces, and many of those faces are tied into archaic religions based upon the tribal practices of ancient goat herders. It doesn't mean they're latent anything.
