The Super Bowl ad debate increased Friday as CBS officially rejected an ad for a gay men’s dating Web site, according to a report on Mashable.com.
The rejection of the ad is likely to add flames to the fire over the acceptance of an ad from anti-gay group Focus on the Family.
Focus on the Family’s anti-abortion ad featuring college football star Tim Tebow, despite outcry from LGBT groups, will air before and during the Feb. 7 Super Bowl. In contrast, ManCrunch.com’s ad will only find viewers on the Internet.
CBS cited several reasons for not running the ad. Mancrunch reported thatt although previously CBS told the company all ad space was sold, that was not among the reasons listed.
“CBS Standards and Practices has reviewed your proposed Super Bowl ad and concluded that the creative is not within the Network’s Broadcast Standards for Super Bowl Sunday,” CBS editor Kristen Bartlett wrote in a letter to ManCrunch.com. “Moreover, our Sales Department has had difficulty verifying your organization’s credit status.”
