In that it allows him to "support" GLBT rights without actually taking an active stand against homophobes. Therefore irrelevancies like "we can disagree without being disagreeable" are presented as though they're the "grown up" treatment of some valid debate with two equal sides, when in fact such treatment is egregiously dishonest because there is no debate at all.

Antigay hatred is wrong and it is evil. Hatred and acceptance are not two co-equal "viewpoints" on the same subject, no matter the source of such hatred.

You are correct: the idea that intolerance is a mere point of view with which one may respectfully "disagree" is an absolute lie.
