Catholic League: “Not all gay sex is abusive”
The president of the Catholic League released a statement today condemning a New York Times story describing years of abuse suffered by a handful of a Chilean priest’s parishioners.
In a statement called “Not All Gay Sex is Abusive,” Catholic League President Bill Donohue called the treatment of followers of Father Karadima not abusive, but rather a “homosexual relationship.”
Karadima is accused of sexually abusing select followers for decades. In one case, James Hamilton, now 44, said he was abused for more than 20 years by Karadima – from the time he was 17, until he was in his late-30s.
“If a 17-year old guy has sex with an older guy for twenty years, and continues to have sex with him at the age of 38 — while he is married with children — is there anyone who would believe his claim that he was sexually abused?” Donohue said.
