NEW YORK: Man Kills Toddler Because He Was "Acting Like A Little Girl"

A New York man is under arrest and charged with beating a 17-month old toddler to death because, in the killer's own words, "I was trying to make him act like a boy instead of a little girl."

The suspect has been identified as Pedro Jones, 20, of South Hampton. He has been charged with first-degree manslaughter after allegedly hitting the boy "several times throughout his body with close fists" and grabbed him by the neck, according to the felony complaint filed by police. Authorities say Jones also told them, "I was trying to make him act like a boy instead of a little girl. I never struck that kid that hard before." The infant, Roy A. Jones, was reportedly found in cardiac arrest and was rushed to Southampton Hospital where he died around 8:30 p.m. "I just found out my Grandson died last night that's all I know," Donna Collins Smith.told PIX 11 News. Police said Jones, who is not a member of the Shinnecock nation but lives on the reservation, is the boyfriend of the baby's mother. "He infiltrated my family through our trust, through the heart of my daughter and then stole the life of her child," said the baby's grandfather Daniel Collins. "I hope the justice system turns around and steals his."

Jones plead not guilty at his arraignment and is being held without bail.

I teach in an alternative high school, and we have many LBGT students because ours is the safer school for them. We don't put with any hazing or crap, and I've seen a teacher get in a bigot's face and shout him down over using derogatory language. We allow our students to define themselves: I wish everyone did.

Our students are there because we're their last chance at a diploma, and they all know everyone there is hurting and has it difficult. I've seen our students not even blink at stuff that would've caused all kinds of crap in another school and even go against their own bigotry to be friends with someone they normally wouldn't like just because they're all in the same boat. In fact, whenever a kid is being a jerk, the other students are the first to say something, and then when I remind him/her that they're all hurting, all working through their own stuff, he/she usually apologizes.

It's a special place. I keep trying to figure out what makes our school work as well as it does and how other schools could do the same, and I think it really comes down to great staff and great administration.

16. I had a neighbor

who used to say he would kick his son out if he became a "sissy". As a toddler, this child preferred to play with "girls" toys. I never paid much attention to the Father because I thought the Father was a fool. Plus, I didn't really believe the child was gay.

Many years later I met one of the family members. I was informed that the toddler, now grown, was gay and dying. I asked about the Father. She told me that when his Father realized that his son was indeed gay, the Father became his staunchest supporter and defender. Thank Heavens some people can grow the F up.
