India to launch gay condom
A leading Indian latex manufacturer is developing the first condom specifically designed for gay men.
The Hindustan Latex Family Promotion Trust is working to create the new condoms called “Spice Up.”
According to Pink News, a recent study conducted by Hindustan with National AIDS Control Organization found that gay and bisexual men were less likely to use protection since condoms made for vaginal sex triggered discomfort when used for anal sex. Consequently, the rate of HIV infection among gay and bisexual men in the country is rising, a recent UN statement reports.
Manufacturers hope that the specially designed condoms will alleviate these concerns.
“This product will be welcomed by homosexual men as well as couples who engage in anal sex,” said sexologist Dr Prakash Kothari. “Sometimes during lovemaking, the lubricating gets messy and anal sex can get painful. A condom with extra lubrication will bring securities to such couples.”
India legalized gay sex in July 2009.
