The president of the GSA I advise was jumped in his neighborhood last night by anti gay bigots. He got a couple of cracked ribs and some abrasions on his face, but is apparently otherwise OK. We had a great meeting today and he was downright inspiring at the end when he told the kids to be themselves in the face of adversity. But, I am just so angry he got attacked in his own neighborhood. It honestly breaks my heart how far we still have to go.

As for his assailants, I wish them upon themselves.

3. Encourage him to name them |
|
I'm virtually certain he knows at least one of his attackers if it was in his own neighborhood. He should make a big deal about having them arrested at school (or in the mall if they're skipping class). Bullies often collapse quickly when confronted, but it should be the authorities who do that.
He should also name any teacher that he has personally spoken to. If more people were afraid of the consequences of their lies, there'd be less of it.

5. We had some problems like this in school |
|
We set up a group that would escort kids home. A buddy system. At one point in Chicago lesbians were getting attacked regularly, especially on the weekends while walking between 2 particular bars. When a woman was raped we took the law in our own hands. We got a group together and started walking the route between the bars. We had one of little cuties walking seemingly alone while a couple of us walked a ways in front and behind her. In other words we entraped the attacker. I will just say that after meeting us the attacker never attacked another lesbian in our neck of the woods.
