Lesbian Sister of Christine O'Donnell Denies She's Homophobic
Lesbian Sister of Christine O'Donnell Denies She's Homophobic

Jennie O'Donnell, the lesbian sister of Delaware GOP Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, denies her sister is homophobic in a Facebook posting.

No, she 's just an "ex-gay" therapy proponent who has compared homosexuality to pedophilia, adultery, eating disorders, and drugs. She also used plenty of gay-baiting in her recent primary campaign against Mike Castle.

1. If you think that gay people are made gay and not born gay you are ignorant.
If you think that being gay makes you a bad person you are Homophobic.

3. Right
on the other hand being part of the Tea Party does make you either stupid or a bad person and running under the Tea Party for office does make you a bad person.

2. Amazing how many of these homphobes have gay siblings
I didn't know about O'Donnell. Fact is I never heard of her until about a week ago.

But there sure are a lot of right wing republicans with gay brothers or sisters.

O'Donnell, Liz Cheney, Newt Gingrich...

Something oedipal at work here?

4. Probably not. I think the stats are 25% probability...
... of a glbt kid in a given nuclear family.

Push that out to first and second cousins and we're everywhere. ( i.e. in every family.)

5. 25% percent sounds awfully high
Given the statistical percentage of the population.

6. Math is NOT my strong suit. Plus...
Edited on Fri Sep-17-10 04:19 AM by Smarmie Doofus
... I may have botched the wording:

>>>I think the stats are 25% probability...

... of a glbt kid in a given nuclear family.>>>

My source for the 25% figure is a pflag presentation I attended last year.

HOWEVER, what I think he actually said was 25% of FAMILIES are likely to contain ONE glbt member. (Not "25 % in a given family.")

So... if you have the average 2.5 kids in a family..... multiply that by four.... you get 10 kids. One of which kids will be glb or t.

One in ten. That checks out.... yes?

He ( pflag guy) might even be bit high, since the prevailing estimates in the general population have usually been *between* 5-10%.

7. Also, for every older brother a boy has, his chances of being gay increase.
Men with older brothers more likely to be gay
Research adds to idea of biological basis for sexual orientation
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13555604/

Also, my theory is that since chrisTian fundamentalists are more likely to suppress their orientation if they are gay, being a chrisTian fundamentalist increases your chances of passing-on gay genes in a heterosexual marriage.

8. One in ten sounds about right, yes.
It matches up roughly to previous estimations which usually run 10 percent or so.

11. If 7% of the population have some identifiable attribute...
Edited on Wed Dec-22-10 09:29 AM by Commie Pinko Dirtbag
...the probability of at least one person in a group of four having that attribute is almost exactly 25%. The math is OK.

And, of course, for bigger families the probability is even bigger.

Statistics problems are often counter-intuitive.

9. "Homosexuality is wrong" brainwashing much?
Edited on Fri Sep-17-10 03:24 PM by alp227
I guess the stupidity runs in the family! It's already been reported that Christine supports Young Earth creationism and "submissive wife" womanhood. Correlating with a belief that homosexuality can be cured. If it could, wouldn't Jean be straight by now? And there be much less support for same-sex marriage?

I first learned about Jean's statements in a Guardian article.

10. Right
I'm sure she has lots of gay friends. :eyes:

And she loves us, she really love us. :sarcasm:

It's just that thing about how she wants to eradicate all of our rights and make us "ex-gay" through the power of Jaysus. Somehow that makes me wonder about her "not homophobic" cred.
