Last week, the Massachusetts legislature defeated a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriages—bucking a trend that has swept over more than a third of the country. Eighteen states already have a constitutional ban on same-sex nuptials. But plenty of these bans remain on the horizon. Here is where the issue stands, state by state.

Most recent anti-gay-marriage amendment approved by both the legislature and voters: Kansas, in April

• The 17 other states where bans exist: Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah

• Amendments approved and scheduled for a popular vote: Texas (in November); Alabama, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee (all in 2006)

1. The flat earthers who run Arizona want to ban it here too

and McCain has said he will vote in favor of it that being the final nail for me. He is officially a sack of shit nothing more than a scumpuppet of the radical right.

4. How many times do LCRs have to be burned before they realize it?

You just can't trust a Republican - no matter how friendly they seem, whenever the going gets tough, they always vote against us.

3. Is there any hope?

I'll take any shred of hope I can find... it seems to me that while we should continue to "fight the good fight" in all states, our best hope for marriage equality is gonna be in the states "near" the ones that already have made such progress. Namely, in New England. There's bound to be some "spillover" into states that border Massachusetts, Vermont, and Connecticut. When people, who are basically liberal or independent to begin with, see that the sky hasn't fallen, surely they will start to see the light. Is that viewpoint hopelessly naive?
Then maybe one of these days some of this fairness will trickle south (hopefully within my lifetime!) We really need the big psychological push that a big state would provide, like CA or NY approving marriage for everyone. But for now, I'll take what I can get.... come on, New Hampshire!! You can do it!!

5. I think there's a good chance Illinois would approve it.

Not as likely as CA or NY, but a better chance than most states.

6. Depending on how the 2006 elections go.....

and how the case that is currently in our court system goes I think Maryland has at least a fighting chance of doing something good in this area......I am not sure what "something" is, but at least I am fairly certain we can fend off the bad guys for as long as they want to keep bringing up stupid amendments, etc...
