Book Ban Week Draws Attention To Censored Gay Literature

Banned Books Week got underway Monday with librarians, booksellers and publishers nationwide drawing attention to attacks on gay and lesbian-themed books.

The American Library Association marks the week annually by sponsoring events and exhibits, speaking out against attempts to censor books and celebrating the freedom to read.

Three of the 10 books on the “Ten Most Challenged Books of 2004,” compiled by the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom, were cited for LGBT themes — the highest number in a decade.

2. Censoring a book was the best way to get me to read it.

And I'm sure kids are much the same today. I'm glad the self-appointed censors don't realize how they get more people to read a book through their efforts to censor it.
