However, commentary regarding Gannon/Guckert's hypocrisy in being "in bed" with the Christian Right, who profess their wish to banish "the gay scourge" from the earth, is totally "fair game."

However, his past as a prostitute is fair game for comment ... and it adds more than a touch of irony considering his involvement with the right wing.

(BTW, the word I think you want is "orientation" since "preference" carries the connotation that it's a choice ... unless you were making reference to his "preference" for money in exchange for sexual services.)
