Movie recommendation: La Mission


La Mission
(2009) R
Ultra-macho ex-con Che Rivera (Benjamin Bratt) learns the true meaning of being a father when he discovers his son (Jeremy Ray Valdez) is gay. Rivera turns violent at first, but when a beautiful neighbor (Erika Alexander) helps him see through his anger, he begins to reconcile his long-held beliefs. Peter Bratt (Benjamin's brother) writes and directs this compelling drama, while Max Rosenak and Talisa Soto co-star.

1. excellent film
I watched it, then invited the whole damn family over to watch it together. Cool that Benjamin Bratt is bringing these issues into the light.

Because he passed away before my youngest brother came out.

I do know that my mother was very apprehensive; not knowing how any of the rest of us would react.

It was surprisingly uneventful. Even my middle brother, who was a 20 year veteran US Marine, took the news without so much as batting an eyelash. He and my youngest brother remained closest until the Marine passed away five years ago.
