Mexico House votes for same-sex couple benefits
Mexico House votes for same-sex couple benefits

(Mexico) Mexico’s House of Representatives has voted to amend social security rules to include medical and social benefits for same-sex couples.

The vote Tuesday was 232 in favor and 58 against. The measure now goes to the Senate for debate.

The amendment deals with the Social Security Institute, which provides benefits to employees of private companies, and with a benefits program for government employees.

The vote comes amid a debate among Mexicans over gay marriage that intensified after Mexico City’s local legislature enacted a law last December allowing same-sex couples in the capital to marry and adopt children.

2. Now is the time for the Democrats to push the "divisive" issue of gay rights
Make the Republicans vote it down every time, or maybe it'll pass. Either way we win.

Vote no on equality and the Republicans will be unmasked for the hate-based party they seem to be. Then reasonable, tolerant people in this country (a majority by the way) will be repulsed and turn against the Rs.

Vote yes on equality, and we've turned the corner on homohatred in this country. No longer with we be kept as second class citizens by law.

Democrats probably won't do this, though. They have a vested interest in keeping things like DOMA and DADT around in order to keep the cash flowing from the gays in exchange for their saying they "support" equality (all the while doing nothing substantive to bring it about).

Congratulations Mexico!

4. Exactly. We've already been there.
Things will never go back to the way they were in the bad old days. What could the Republicans possibly do to make things WORSE than they are right now?

Internment camps?
