Ryan White AIDS Fund Expires

The Ryan White Act - the federal fund that helps provide critical care and treatment to hundreds of thousands of Americans with HIV and AIDS - expires at midnight tonight.

If the act is not reauthorized or at least extended hundreds of HIV/AIDS care facilities across the country could be in danger of closing or cutting back on their operations.

Congress is not expected to look at extending or reauthorizing funding for the act for several months. Even then, the Bush White House has not provided for any increase in funding to take into consideration the cost of inflation. Funding for the fund has been flatlined for several years.
