Nobody hassled me or anything! In fact, I got a couple compliments on it.

Yay for the University of Toronto! At my high school, I know people would have insulted me or tried to argue with me about it. So maybe sometimes it really does get better once you get out of high school? Ha.

Also, you can get said shirt at http://www.fckh8.com

1. That is terrific...
My children and I were eating out in a small city maybe 3 hours from Toronto and our server, a man in his late teens, was waiting for me :) to sign the bill.. The children were talking about their drive back to Toronto where they live.

Suddenly he said... "I went to the"....long pause...."Gay Pride Parade in Toronto"..pause..

So we yakked on about the Gay Pride Parade and how hot it had been during the last parade..

But what I was never able to tell him was the reaction of my two children, one male, one female and myself immediately after we left the restaurant.

"Wasn't he brave" one said admiringly ...followed immediately by the other saying .."wasn't he great".. "because Mother, this is still a relatively small town, you know"... They could see that he was still so young, they are in their late 20's, and we could see the difficulty he had in articulating that simple statement..

I always wanted to tell this story, because he will never know how we applauded his courage, and felt proud ourselves that he would feel comfortable to say it to us..

Best of luck, and I hope you really enjoy Toronto... :)

3. It does get better once you shed the conformity of high school
and you learn to choose which grownup situations are safe for you. I wouldn't wear that shirt in a holly roller church, for instance.

4. Speaking of T-shirts
I don't know if anyone lives near St. Charles, Illinois but there was a big thing in the papers a couple weeks ago about some students who apparently got tired of the whole "gay pride" thing and decided to make t-shirts that said "Straight Pride" on the front and had a Bible verse that advocates death for homosexuals on the back. The sad part is that the school administration allowed these kids to wear these shirts for most of the school day before saying something.

6. Now why doesn't that surprise me?
I stood in town today holding two signs, the first one said "Our principal beats butts" and the second one said "Positive Role Model or child abuser?." Alot of people saw me. Now I just need a gay pride t=shirt to wear while I do it and I could probably get attacked. Maybe I should try that? I can just see the headlines now.

Gay Parent campaigning against corporal punishment gets murdered outside of country store. Charges dropped. Judge says "we don't put up with that here."

7. "You think you're Normal...
You're just Heterosexual"

was my favorite shirt, closely followed by "Jesus, Protect me from your followers"

8. When I have the money, I'm buying both of those T-shirts.
The truth is hilarious.
