Why Are Haters Bullying "Glee"’s Kurt?
If the first season of Fox's hit show Glee kept Kurt Hummel in the background for some, this season’s most recent episodes have brought him front and center. In the culmination of a story arc on bullying spanning several episodes, the latest Glee rallied the cast in defense of our embattled hero: the girls unleashed their boyfriends on Dave the bully, Mike Chang and Sam roughed Dave up, Sue Sylvester expelled him, while Finn and the rest of the gang lifted Kurt’s spirits with song.

All in all, it was pretty amazing television and Chris Colfer continued to prove himself one of the show’s breakout stars.

So why did the episode seem to start a trickle of haterade from the blogosphere, complete with calls that the show had “jumped the shark” and lost its mojo?

The complaints about Glee have been varied and not all crazy, and nearly all of them implicate the show’s Kurt-heavy episode arc as symptomatic of bigger problems.

1. The problem with the show right now is in season one there were underlying storylines
that were not solved in an episode or two or three, but went the entire season...they need to have storylines like that...ones with longevity. I mean Will and what's-her name's romance lasted two episodes, and two episodes of him trying to get her back and then realizing it was over. Even without the bullying, the storylines are all about Kurt (Grilled Cheesus) because I think they don't know what to do with the others.

2. Seems to be mixing issues.. or missing the point....

Those comments received that were NON-hateful, but critiquing, as discussed in the article seem to all suggest the issues that many a tv show before Glee has faced--that those watching want, overall, to be entertained. Messaging is ok, but repetitive preachiness loses the audience. To wit, one of my early favorites, MASH, lost many a faithful fan when their threshold for Hawkeye's preachy messaging was reached.

Personally, I think Glee jumped the shark for reasons totally unrelated to Kurt or the bullying storyline. I wonder how many are fed up with Rachel's constant narcissism?

3. It's FOX covering their ass
on the Fox news they whip up the hatred and on their entertainment channel they cover their asses by showing that bullying is wrong...that way they can say they don't incite the bullying behavior that they admonish it...
