When told racial discrimination is not the same as opposing gay marriage
because you can't choose your skin color but you can choose your sexual orientation, I realized today that instead of always responding with, "There's no evidence it's a choice", I should always respond with, "That's fucking irrelevant."

What the fuck does it matter if it's a choice or not, anyway? Even if homosexuality is a choice it makes no difference to whether gays should be able to marry or not.

I was always focused on refuting the choice thing and now I realize that, where it concerns the debate on gay marriage, I don't need to waste my time because it simply doesn't make a damn bit of a difference.

Should save me some time in future debates.

1. I always answer with "Today you can."
Because with plastic surgery you COULD choose your skin color. Just like with reparation therapy you could choose your orientation. both are unnecessary, expensive, painful procedures that few people want and no one needs. And honestly, if anyone still believes it's a choice, they're a lost cause.

2. Very good way of putting it indeed.
Nobody should ever be forced to change.

3. And then it can then be comparable to
religion. Few would deny that those who choose a particular religion should or could be discriminated against in ANY way. So you see, most agrees that even a choice should be protected.

4. I'll stand as proof that it's not a choice.
I've known since I was 7 and Star Wars came out. My guy friends were going on about Princess Leia while I was thinking about Luke and Han. Not a choice. Just who I am.
