D.C. police investigate ‘pattern’ in transgender shootings

Police are investigating a second attack on a transgender woman only a block from the site where a transgender woman was fatally shot last month in a Northeast D.C. neighborhood.
Due to the similarities in the crimes and the suspect descriptions, “the cases are being investigated as a potential emerging pattern,” Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said in a written statement.
The most recent incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. Sunday in the 6200 block of Dix Street Northeast when a man approached a transgender woman in the area and asked for change. Before the woman could respond, the man pulled out a handgun and shot at her but missed, police said.
Less than two weeks ago, Myles “Lashay” Mclean, 23, was fatally shot in the 6100 block of Dix Street Northeast also while walking late at night.
