Houston — Texas Governor and potential GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry led a huge prayer rally on Saturday -- a rally that was paid for by the anti-gay American Family Association.

Perry said "The Response" event was supposed to be a "national day of prayer." He spoke to thousands at Houston's Reliant Area, and thousands more through the internet and Christian cable channels.

"Father, our heart breaks for America," Perry said.

Perry will spend next weekend at a conservative conference in Charleston, South Carolina.

The American Family Association, sponsor of Perry's prayer rally, has been working to deprive gays and lesbians of rights for decades. The group's president, Dr. Donald Wildmon, has been claiming that gays are undermining the country since 1977.

1. Part of the MOral Majority evolution into the TPARTY PATRIOTS!
These guys are all about money and power. They demagogue and spread "hatred of the other" because they are inferior humans, not because they are doing something wrong. As I like to repeat, Just how many GAYS does GOD have to create before the faux christians admit that they are human, have a right to all the rights and privileges the american society has to offer its citizens.

2. That's why I'm not taking this lightly at all.
It's not just a religious event. Its not a political event. It's a part of a partisan power grab meant to pander to a very dangerous and narrow minded section of Christianity. The fact that some radical people like John Hagee were present praising Perry scares the shit out of me.
