Texas Judge Bars Gay Man From Leaving His Children With His Husband
http://lezgetreal.com/2011/08/texas-judge-bars-gay-man-from-leaving-his-children-with-his-husband/

Harris County Associate Judge Charley E. Prine, Jr of Texas has issued a ruling with can only be seen as being activist in nature. He has prohibited a father from leaving his children with any man that they are not related to “by blood or adoption” even though there have been no allegations of abuse nor any risk of them being abused. The ruling that family law practitioners are saying is an unheard of infringement on the rights of parents came because William Flowers, the father of three children with his ex-wife, is not only gay, but is married to Jim Evans. The two married in Connecticut.

In 2004, Flowers and his ex-wife divorced and they agreed that their three children should live with her. Flowers decided recently to change that arrangement and filed for custody. After a jury hearing, it was found that his ex-wife should keep custody of the children, but granted Flowers visitation rights. Flower’s ex-wife did not allege that Flowers or anyone around him had abused the children.

Flowers’ mother is currently in the hospital, and if he has the children at that time, he cannot leave them with his husband to visit her. The ruling also means that male doctors, teachers and pastors cannot be alone with the children.

10. Welcome to Texas?
What's that supposed to mean?

Annise Parker is our mayor here in Houston.
Parker is Houston's second female mayor, and the first elected gay mayor of a major U.S. city.

p.s. Please don't stereotype 'all' of Texas and Houston/HarrisCounty due to the actions of one asshole judge.

3. not only is this horribly bigoted against gay people
It is out and out sexism.

This morning I dropped my son off at school in the "car rider" line. The PE teacher, a man, was there at the line and let my son out to take him in to the school.

According to this judge's ruling, the father wouldn't be allowed to do that. That's insane. He can't drop his kids off at school unless a woman is there?

I understand completely that the judge was making this as a homophobic attack against a gay family. But the ruling is insane beyond that. Cub scouts? Little league? Baby sitter? As much as I'm outraged about the homophobic attempt, and I am also outraged by the sheer sexism that says a man can not care for a child.

Absolutely disgusting.

7. Why was a court even involved?
Who made a complaint that the law would even be involved? When I left my daughter in someone's care, no one knew but myself, the sitter and my daughter...who was it that complained?

8. This ruling should be shoved right in the court's face.
Parents that find their children have been left with teachers, pastors, doctors, friends, any male (:wtf:) should go to court over this.

12. Once again...
the government is sticking its nose into places it has no business going. If there is no threat to the children then the judge should leave the parenting decisions to the parents.
