Gay Man Brutally Attacked Outside of Gay Club in Salt Lake City

Dane Hall, a 20-year-old gay Salt Lake City man, had his jawbone broken in three places, lost six teeth, and was hospitalized for four days this week after being attacked outside one of the city's nightclubs, Q Salt Lake reports:

Hall said he left Club Sound, which is gay-themed on Friday nights, and crossed the street to the corner of 600 W. and 200 S. in Salt Lake City, when four men approached him and began yelling gay slurs. He was then punched in the back of the head and knocked to the ground. One of the assailants grabbed his shirt and began punching him in the face, he said. After Hall fell to the ground again, the attacker grabbed him, placed his open mouth over the street curb and stomped on the back of head, knocking out six teeth in a move commonly referred to as ‘curb checking,’ which can result in death in many cases. Two other assailants kicked him repeatedly in the stomach, Hall said. The attackers called him a ‘fag’ and took his identification and $40, he said.

“I could have died. And a piece of bone from my jaw was jammed in my brain, to make things worse,” Hall said in email correspondence because his jaw is still wired shut after the attack. “If anyone has any information leading to the arrest I am offering a $10,000 reward.”

Salt Lake City police are looking into the attack. Anyone with information about the assailants or any possible leads are being asked to call the Salt Lake Police Department at 801-799-3000.

1. No it's not just you.

Seems to me the attacks are coming more frequent & a hell of a lot more dangerous. I cannot stress enough the importance of self protection. I would rather take the chance to defend myself in court room than to be planted six feet under or laying in a hospital bed in a vegetable state.

11. When I was attacked, I was jumped from behind.

Didn't sense I was in any danger until the second before I found myself on the ground, getting called 'faggot' while I was beaten.

This kid was also attacked from behind. He claims the first blow was a punch to the back of his head.

Look at the Laurence King murder by one of his classmates. He was shot twice in the back of his head.

I wonder whether these are all coincidences or an integral part of how violence is perpetrated against people with differing sexual orientations or gender variations.

I don't know where or when it will end, if ever. I am so glad my son is straight, if only that he doesn't have to deal with the jackasses of the world who are so hung up on somebody else's sexual orientation. I will NEVER understand them and their irrational fear and hate, and violence.

If anyone hasn't seen the movie "American History X", I highly recommend it to see what hatred and bigotry can do to a person. There's a scene in that movie that shows what this "curb checking" crap is.

I have always considered myself a peaceful man, but the animals that did this to Dane need to be found, and put down.

...is possible to hate someone I don't even know. A lot of my cases involved horrible abuse of children. I don't care what else these assailants have done in their lives or what they will do in the future. As far as I am concerned this one act bans them from the human family.
