Christians confused about how to treat gays as leaders give conflicting messages about homosexuality
Cross posted from R&T
---------------------------------------------------

According to the Christian Post, Christians are confused as to how they should treat homosexuals. The Christian rules, "Do unto others as you want others to do unto you," and "Love thy neighbor," are acknowledged by Christians, yet, in a world in which Christians find the LGBT community making great strides, gaining acceptance and enforcing their civil rights, Christians are finding it difficult to keep to the spirit of the biblical rules.

According to the Christian Post, when attempts by Christians to represent the biblical perspective on homosexuality are derided and described as hate speech and civil intolerance Christians are provoked and confused about how to react because the bible says that homosexuality is sin.

Christian writer James Middletree admits that, "there are many Christians who are intolerant of gays as human beings," but then he adds confusedly, "There are listed behaviors that are abhorrent to God. There is alcoholism, fornication, and homosexuality with covetousness. If God didn’t bother separating one sin out from that list, why do we?"

Christian writer Coleman says that so much is at stake in the debate about homosexuality that many Christians are unable to distinguish the sin form the sinner. While Christians are urged to "Hate the Sin, Not the Sinner," the writer admits that Gay rights is a hot issue in politics which continues to dominate every election cycle because "growing acceptance of same-sex marriage and homosexuality is a direct threat to traditional Christian norms of sex and marriage."

2. "Love the sinner, hate the sin"
...but the "sin" isn't the one the christofacists gleefully bash. The more they wanna do it, or secretly do it, the more they think crushing another person will make sure no one suspects them.

3. They are just so filled with self worship and ego
They are hypocrites by their own standards, so many times over. Each Biblical author who speaks against gay people also supports slavery and the subservient status of women. The gall of these people is infinite. It starts at the top. Note all of the sneering Christian women opposing gay people because of what Paul wrote, none of whom, including the First Lady, pay any mind at all to Paul's commands toward them. Do any of them reject all apparel that is costly or which draws attention to their physical beauty? No, the FLOTUS announces to the world which designers make her gear, which Paul called 'costly array' and forbade for Christian women. He also commands them to keep their heads covered and to remain silent in the congregation, women, he commands, must never ask a question in public, but only in private and only to their husbands. The same people who call Paul's attacks on gay people 'the Word of God' say that the verses in which Paul tells women and slaves how to behave are 'dated parts of the culture of the time, not meant for modern people'. Uh huh.
The entire Paul spouting world is like a Rabbi demanding that others keep kosher while eating a pork and cheese sandwich on a Saturday morning. The actions make the stated faith seem false, affected, and all about prejudice. They make use of the divine for their own agendas of bigotry toward others and license for their own behaviors.

4. Dear confused Christians let me help:
Christ told you to treat others as you would want to be treated yourself.
He never said do anything different to gays: therefore the normal rules apply.
Treat gays as you would want to be treated yourself.

toodles

5. Here's the problem...
They are not Christians.
They are Leviticans.
Or Old Testamentites.

They don't listen to all the love thy neighbor stuff in the New Testament.
Only that single stone the queers line in the Old Testament.

They very simply are not Christians...

11. Pretty much all Christians ignore some of Jesus Christ's teachings.
Jesus Christ teaches that men are the head of women, but that doesn't fly very well with liberal Christians. Liberal Christians rightfully ignore that teaching; they know better than Jesus.

6. my fave response to homophobes
Go read Matthew 7: 1-5. That's the words of Jesus, no ifs, ands, buts, or kindas. Now do it, if you really are a Christian

7. Christians should be just as confused about shrimp as well...

This article only supports the fact that it is okay for Christians to pick and choose what they want to follow as it sits in the Bible.

8. I think at least a few of these "Christians"
( I put the word in quotes because there's nothing Christ-like about their behavior) are closet cases and lash out at gays because they are closet cases themselves. Remember that idiot who was serving as an Assistant Attorney General of Michigan and went after the student body president of UMich? The student body president is gay and was advocating for such EXTREME things as gender-neutral housing, lol. I gotta say, my gay-dar really went off hearing the bigoted AAG speak.

9. I'm sick to death of them and their BS
Until they follow their precious Bible to a "T" and stop ignoring parts they find irrelevant or inconvenient (like the parts about divorce, lying, adultery, gold and pearl jewelry, etc) they have no business whining about others not following the parts about homosexuality--or anything else. What's more--how dare they whine about "religious freedom" while they seek to impose their religion on others via things like anti-gay laws? They're hypocrites of the highest order.

My marriage doesn't do anything to their "traditional" marriage or their chosen religious lifestyle. They need to mind their own frigging business and get a hobby that doesn't involve fucking around in other peoples' lives.

10. For Pete's Sake
There should be no confusion. People are people. I have met too many people that condemn gays while eating shellfish, getting drunk and hiding affairs that talk about making it to church each and every Sunday. There is something very wrong.

13. There are some mainstream christian sects that teach followers that hate is good
when it comes to homosexuality. And then, perhaps less malignantly, the Vatican which teaches to love gay people but that gay people can lead only lonely, loveless lives.

So I think these churches have MILES to go before they can even begin to THINK about being considered morally upstanding organizations. MANY miles.
