My kid wants to be a Cub Scout. Question:
Where can I find a list of Dens/Packs in Connecticut (Fairfield County) that aren't all right-wing homophobic?

Is there some sort of database or something?

I know Connecticut is pretty laid back in terms of institutionalized homophobia, so I don't imagine even the worst Pack probably isn't out there with Bibles trying to pray away the gay. But still, I'd rather not have to deal with trying to explain that our gay neighbors (who my kid loves and who love him) aren't really eternally-damned sinners.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm off to bed, so I'll check this thread in the morning.

:hi:

2. I thought the anti-gay bias was in their "national" rules??
I don't like or trust those outfits, personally.

3. Read thru the Scouting for All website:
http://www.scoutingforall.org/

Not sure it will answer your question specifically, but you will definitely learn a lot.

I had the same dilemma about five years ago. 'Cept I wanted my kid to join and he didn't. I thought he needed it, ( i.e. the comradery, outdoorsiness etc. ) despite the traditional anti-gay, pro-religion animus.( I'm gay and resolutely secular).

I dragged him to the orientation but they couldn't sell him on it. Just as well, I guess.

4. No BSA troop allows in gays and all demand faith in God to be avowed
I am guessing if you can handle that there are troops that reinforce it less with teaching/indoctrination, but you can't escape it entirely in BSA.
