Marriage equality supporter Sean Avery of the New York Rangers appears to have been called a gay slur during a preseason game Monday night during a fight with Philadelphia Flyers' Wayne Simmonds.

Video footage catches Simmonds screaming "fucking faggot" across the ice, but there is no sound. Avery said he heard the words.

"Did he call you what we think he called you?" a reporter asked Avery, according to a transcript posted by the Daily Times of Delaware County, Pa.

“Well, yeah,” he confirms.

For his part, Simmonds said he can't remember "every single word I said."

2. Why is it MEN have so much of a problem with this?

Is it some kind of "macho" thing? Do they percieve gayness as a threat to their own sexuality? Are the majority of men that insecure? In all my 60+ years, growing up in the West Village, having gay open female relatives (even back to the 50s), it just isn't the same issue with women as it it with men. Oh, not just lesbians but gay men as well. I don't know. Are the majority of women more "sensitive" when it comes to seeing the human being inside?
