Serbia gay pride march is banned

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) -- Police have banned a gay pride march and an anti-gay protest by far-right extremists in Serbia this weekend.

Police said they acted Friday to prevent the kind of violence that struck two similar events in Belgrade, Serbia's capital, last year. About 100 people were injured in those clashes.

Anti-gay prejudice is widespread in Serbia, a predominantly conservative Balkan country.

Serbia has been urged by the West to protect the human rights of gays and other minorities, if it wants to one day join the European Union.

2. The Balkans have a long way to go, but banning a Pride March is just stupid.

Even though they have a long way to go at least Homosexuality is legal in Serbia. Which is more than I can say for Several African Countries.

have a decent record...the area with Serbia, Crotia and that part of Eastern Europe are all horrendous.
