Editor's Notebook: Wearing that letter A

The largest remaining barrier to love in our world is the one our culture places before those who love others of their gender.
Any kid who becomes aware that he or she is gay realizes that it means a life of being belittled and made the butt of jokes behind one's back, a life of choosing between bracing oneself constantly for backlash, or living in some degree of secrecy.
It could also mean job discrimination, rejection by family and friends, social ostracism, bullying, hate crimes and more.
This is not stuff that is built into being gay. It's stuff people choose to do to gay people. People choose to hurt others based on how they love.
