The segment was about GLBT couples in NC trying to obtain marriage licenses. One couple that I remember had been married in MA and were trying to have their marriage acknowledged in NC. More than one couple had children and stated that they needed to protect their children. I was kinda choking up then.
Then there was a lesbian couple and this isn't exact, but the woman who was addressing the clerk said something like, 'we've been together for 25 years, we're in our mid - 60's, will there even be a time in our lifetimes when we won't be treated as second class citizens'. That's when the waterworks started for me.
I don't have a link to the segment of the show, but hopefully it will be available, but this is the link given to the courageous folks in NC
http://southernequality.org/2011/10/breaking-we-do-campaign-intensifies-tactics-to-resist-unjust-laws/The clerks seemed sympathetic while they had to deny their requests, and it was just damned sad.
