Missing Teen With Autism Found In A West Hollywood Bar (was being sent to a "specialized school"?)
Edited on Fri Oct-21-11 06:25 AM by Divine Discontent
Cameron James Smith: Missing Teen With Autism Found In A West Hollywood Bar, was headed back to "specialized school in Salt Lake"

The search for a 14 year-old boy who went missing in Burbank ended after he was spotted at a popular gay bar in West Hollywood.

Smith went missing Wednesday morning from Bob Hope Airport in Burbank after his parents dropped him off and watched him board a SkyWest Airlines flight to Salt Lake City, Utah. The teen, who has autism, attends a specialized school in Salt Lake City, according to The Burbank Leader.

His commuter flight had returned to the gate after boarding due to undisclosed mechanical issues, at which point the passengers deplaned. Smith's parents were unaware of this, and since they did not pay an unaccompanied minor fee, lied about his age and did not reveal that Smith suffered from autism, no one on the flight crew was assigned to monitor him, reports ABC News.

Once Smith had exited the airport, KTLA reports that he borrowed money from strangers to take an MTA bus to Hollywood.

Hmmmm... I wonder if he was trying to flee reparative therapy (pray away the gay) or they were anti-gay in general at the school, so he took off when he got the chance thanks to his parents being cheap and misleading about his age for the flight. I feel for him if that's the case... I am a Christian, and Gay, and I know someone who was sent for that bullshit therapy that doesn't mesh with Christ's teachings, and have watched many videos about other people's stories. If he simply ran away because his parents sent him away to Salt Lake, one has to ask why send him there unless it's not something that we would call good for him? I hope more can come out about this. I pray for that kid, poor guy.

1. If it turns out that it was a "Pray the gay away" school there will be political hell to pay.

2. That is fishy....
The parents need to be arrested for child endangerment for not telling the airlines a kid with autism was suppose to be on the plane. Then maybe we would get the truth.

17. True...
Definitely more to this story. At the least the parents were negligent for putting the young man on a flight and (probably) "forgettinh" to mention his autism.

3. OH MY GOD...Here is the real story
Yes, the teen is gay and ran away from a notorious "Pray the Gay away" school in Utah called Cross Creek. We need to make this a headline story in all of the News. This is a huge story on the facts that the parents tried to cover it up.

6. My heart is breaking. I'd take him in to my home in a nanosecond.
Those parents may think they mean well, but this is utterly abusive!

10. yep! I hope he stays strong and keeps in mind what they are trying to do to him (brainwash) and
gets free somehow. I will keep praying for him, he doesn't deserve this abuse, and it is abuse. Everyone should send him good vibes/prayers to get out of their bullshit "reparative" lies. God made him just the way he was meant to be, these bastards want to shove their silly dogma down his throat and make him live a lie, like too many already do. :(

9. That should be considered child abuse
Sadly it's still under the banner of "parental rights" and "religious freedom".

11. I hope he can get to the net and search his story and see everyone's comments on the web for him.
God bless him, he doesn't deserve their abusive "reparative therapy", which nearly everyone considers brainwashing except the fundamentalists.

12. That poor boy.
Just desperate to be around people who might understand him and accept him as he is. That should never be too much for any child to ask.

Homophobia is a deep, deep sickness. Unfortunately "praying it away" doesn't seem to work against that either.

13. So, is he autistic, too, or was that another lie by the parents...
I hope the kid makes it through the next few years and is able to get away from those loons.

14. It's such bullshit
that a class of people can be abused in order to protect another class.

15. The parents of the kids
sent to these kinds of places are the ones who need reparative therapy. Lets start up a series about that.

How to love your child. How to accept your child is not going to be just like you. How to let your child be who they are.

16. yeah, PFLAG parents would LOVE to get a few words with this poor kid's parents about how they are
doing him great harm. Just look at that face, he looks like such a sweet kid and you can bet he's an emotional wreck because of what they're doing...
