Most police will do a cursory investigation (if that) because cats are notorious for choosing their own people.

If need be, get a restraining order to keep her away. Also, you may want to contact a lawyer for some legal advice. You have possession of the cat, you are feeding the cat and taking care of his needs. It sounds like she is threatening you to see if you will be intimidated enough to fold and give her the cat. Then I got a threatening phone call...I'm more convinced she should not have this kitten...she's nuts...even if I have to find him a new home so when they ask me where it is, I say he's gone, it'll be better than going to her.

23. I contacted Animal Control and said she has 5 cats is looking for more,

and I don't think she can care properly for them (the county limit for owners is 3 cats per household). Also, I am trying to talk with someone at the police department, they told her it was a civil matter, basically meaning they wouldn't get involved, but i still want to talk to someone because she's nuts. A woman who I work with, her ex-husband is head of the police union, so I want to talk with him, but so far no luck.

24. She sounds like a nut. As a CCL and cat rescue person myself, some advice?

1. Take the cat to the vet. Save all the paperwork. Get a license from the county. Get a microchip. Take the cat in to a groomer and save the receipt. Sign up for the frequent shopper card at the pet supply store and put your cat's name on the account. Whatever you can do along those lines, you just want to have as many slips of paper with your name and proof that you're spending money on the cat as possible.

2. If there's any possibility she's going to come by with the PD, make sure everything is spotless (or as close as is reasonable) food bowls are filled, litter is freshly scooped, the bag of expensive food is sitting where it can be seen, a few cat toys are seen lying about. Engage in a little stage setting if you need to, just make sure you're visually communicating that yours is a great home in a way that a stranger would easily appreciate.

3. Was there any documentation about your taking the cat from her? Do you have emails, voice mail, etc? Would she have any from you?

4. Can a credible third party back up your side of the story?

5. If all of your ducks are in a row, consider blocking her number and filing a harassment complaint. Definitely do so if she shows up at your house.

6. Under no circumstances allow her any contact with the cat.
