Transgender student expelled from private Riverside university

A man who identifies himself as a woman said she has been expelled from a nursing program at California Baptist University for appearing on a television program to discuss her gender identity, a local newspaper is reporting.

Domaine Javier, 24, told the Riverside Press-Enterprise she was expelled from the school after appearing on MTV’s "True Life” and declaring that she is biologically male. Javier dresses as a woman and has identified herself as female since childhood.

The show’s episode was called “I’m Passing As Someone I’m Not,” the newspaper reported.

Javier told the paper that she clicked the space next to “female” on the school’s online application form.

“They said, ‘On your application form you put "female," ’ " Javier told the paper. "And I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s how I see myself.’ ”

I don't mean did she want them to or do we think they should have reacted differently. I mean did she really truly think they would have a different reaction. You're going to a Baptist school--you either keep that secret or go somewhere else.

You're going to a Southern school--you either keep your race secret or go somewhere else.

Doesn't sound so good put that way, does it? And it's exactly morally equivalent. Ms. Javier has every right to an education at that college. The fact that the college is run by bigots, and that the law hasn't caught up with our natural rights, is immaterial. The college is in the wrong, and by saying "oh, she shouldn't have pressed the issue," you're just keeping things from getting any better.

We don't gain our rights by refusing to push for them. We gain our rights by demanding them.

5. A private organization has every right to choose its members and decide for itself

what people can and cannot be a part of it. Yes, that college has a right to say she cannot attend there, both in my example and in yours. On the other hand, UCLA does not have the right to discriminate because it is a public school.

Your argument is really that no group should ever have the right to decide for itself who its members can be? The KKK must accept blacks? A Muslim school must educate Jewish children? A gay support group must accept homophobes? Really?

6. Incorrect.

Yes, really. A private college may not discriminate if it's receiving even a dime of money from the feds (and CBU does take federal money). There is federal law on this for gender (Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972) and race (part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964). The fact that this has not yet been extended to gender identity is because the GOP is full of people who think that LGBT is a four-letter obscenity.

The fact that you have to compare CBU to the KKK to make your point really says where CBU falls on the ethical spectrum, doesn't it?

4. This is outrageous

This case need to be brought to court, and the administrators and whoever involved should have the book thrown at them, and hard too.
