Same-Sex Marriage Initiative Nixed for 2012
http://kezi.com/news/local/230694

EUGENE, Ore. -- The largest gay rights group in Oregon will not put a same-sex marriage initiative on next year's ballot.

Basic Rights Oregon made its decision after surveying Oregonians.
They found that although support for same-sex marriage is growing across the state, not enough people back this initiative to ensure that it will pass.

Basic Rights Oregon spent three years trying to gain public support for the same-sex initiative by producing TV commercials, going door-to-door and making phone calls.
But in the end, a June survey revealed 48 percent of voters support overturning an amendment to the constitution passed in 2004 that defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman
