Zuccotti Guard Fired for Using Slur
A security guard at New York’s Zuccotti Park — site of the Occupy Wall Street protest — has been fired for using a gay slur toward a videographer.
A spokesman for Brookfield Properties, which owns the park, told Gothamist the guard had been fired. As private security personnel joined police in patrolling the park Tuesday, videographer Joey Boots asked the guard whether he was employed by Brookfield, and the man responded, “Your fly’s open, faggot.” Boots caught the comment on tape.
Brookfield spokesman Matthew Cherry said of the guard, “His comment was offensive and inexcusable, and we have a policy of zero tolerance for such behavior. In accordance with our code of conduct he’s been terminated from his work with Brookfield.” Cherry told Gothamist the man worked for a Brookfield subcontractor, but he declined to name the subcontractor or say whether it is still being used by Brookfield.
