Archbishop Timothy Dolan: I Was Tricked Into Thinking Gay Marriage Wouldn't Pass

New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan says he and other Catholic bishops didn't strongly fight the marriage equality bill because they were deceived into believing it had no chance of passage.

“We fell for the assurances of people that we thought were political allies that this wasn’t going to go anywhere,” Dolan told Arroyo, pointing out that there was “some credibility” to this claim, since past efforts to legalize gay “marriage” in New York had failed. “So we had political allies who said, ‘Bishops, keep your ammo dry, you don’t have to pull out all the stops, speak on principle, speak up against this bill, but don’t really worry because it’s not going to go anywhere.’

Dolan is also reiterating his completely unproven claim that the Catholic Church has been threatened with lawsuits for refusing to host gay weddings.

“We said the next thing will be we’ll be sued if we don’t do marriage, we’re going to be harassed if we don’t do receptions, we’re going to be penalized if we don’t allow adoption, we’re going to be booed if we don’t hire these people,” Dolan told Arroyo. But he said, people responded saying, “You’re paranoid, you’re Chicken Littles. It’s never going to happen. Well, Dolan said, “It’s already happening.”

5. I wrote him an e-mail when it first passed and asked him to explain
why he had a right to tell others how they needed to live and
have yet to receive any response.
He sure can speak out when it suits him, but is a coward when questioned
and asked to defend his positions.

6. My daughters, and I, spent a lot of time calling
and emailing our own, and other state senators, in support of marriage equality. So who are they supposed to listen to? A Cardinal or the people who elected them? Will of the PEOPLE, Cardinal. Will of the PEOPLE!.

BTW, my daughter is getting engaged this December. I can guarantee you she won't be looking to get married in or have a reception in any place affiliated with the Catholic Church.

In that what he thought was Gospel. The lord works in mysterious ways, he also has a sense of humor one that the Archbishop apparently doesn't like.

"God: My book? Who said it was my book? What do you think I faxed it down here? It was written by man. It was interpreted by man. It was abused by man."

12. I was tricked into thinking Christians consider lying sinful

Apparently I was wrong.

Pedophile Pope mortified that truth and goodness and light will always win over domination and lies and perversion and evil.

15. The first comment at the link
says it all:

"Of course the real issue here is him thinking that he should be consulted or informed at all."

Dear Archbishop,

:nopity:

And may I remind you, "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's" Matthew 22:21. If you want to influence elections get out of the church and start paying taxes.

Lots of love,

A former Catholic who believes you and many church leaders will go to hell

16. “So we had political allies who said, ‘Bishops, keep your ammo dry,"
Wait.

They have ammo ? (old school ammo that is perhaps not in metal shell casings but is rather powder in a packet and a musketball).

Seriously, an interesting metaphor but then again why should ANYthing the Catholic Church does or says make sense at this point ?

17. I thought that was very revealing.
“So we had political allies who said, ‘Bishops, keep your ammo dry, you don’t have to pull out all the stops, speak on principle, speak up against this bill, but don’t really worry because it’s not going to go anywhere.’

Which means I suppose that "You don't have to spew your normal fear mongering and lies, we've got this covered."

The only true problem the Bishop has is that he believes that if he had waged his war against marriage equality the way they have done for decades the voters would have cowered in fear and voted against equality. Instead of using donations for the good of all, the Bishop would have spent them on getting out the threats of hell fire and brimstone.

It can't be easy to try to stand the high ground on "protecting our children" from the position of an accessory to rape.
