Bread, hamburger buns & hot dog buns.
Edited on Tue Nov-29-11 05:05 PM by William769
Do you buy yours or make your own?

I only ask is because I have made my own bread for years in a bread machine (actually I just use the dough cycle then form, raise then bake in my oven. I found a recipe to make dough for hamburger buns/hot dog buns & decided to use dough cycle for the dough, then shape, rise & bake.

Not only does it taste great, it saves money. Bread products have sky rocketed lately, at least where I live.

1. If you could, would you please re-post this in the "Groups"/Home & Family/
Cooking & Baking category. I'll bet you'll get a lot of responses there.

:hi:

3. Nadine gave a bread recipe earlier this year -
Edited on Tue Nov-29-11 05:09 PM by closeupready
I tried it and it worked well - except I didn't knead the bread as much as I needed. :D And the bread came out kind of heavy and thick.

But I buy bread once ever two weeks or so and stick it in the freezer, as I don't eat much of it anymore - at least on a daily basis. I've really cut down on the refined carbohydrates, since they contribute very little value nutritionally and make you fat.

For hot dogs, I just use a slice of bread. I don't make hamburgers at home, but if I did, I would probably buy hamburger buns.

Here is Nadine's post from July:

5. I don't but my partner does....refuses to use a bread machine though....
He make great bread, buns, and rolls and a braided cream cheese bread I'd fight for. I do most of the rest of the cooking but he's definitely the baker.

9. Stuffed with sweetened cream cheese it is flawless.....
He's making it Christmas because we're spending the holidays with his ex-wife and her family (what can I say we're a "modern family").

14. That's what I miss about TX and SoCal
I dearly love to dance; two-step, east and west coast swing, Lindy. Sadly, my beloved is so self-conscious he won't consider stepping out onto a dance floor, but he doesn't mind if I go grab someone to cut a rug with whilst he watches. It's a shame really; he's still got the cutest butt and I'd love to watch him shake it :)

12. That's the same technique I use.
Make dough in bread machine, take it out after the punch-down, and bench-proof it on stove in regular pan before baking.

I use the same basic technique for hamburger buns because I found one mug in our cupboard that makes the perfect sized dough cutter, but have yet to find a good way to make hot dog buns the same way.

We've made our own bread for four years and it's not only a lot cheaper it tastes better.

13. For hot dog buns I use a corn on the cob holder.
For the hamburger buns I have a soup cup that works perfectly.

15. Never thought of a corn holder.
Will see if I have one of those in the backs of cabinets.
