Damn us homos when we try and redefine marriage or push for marriage for us and call it a civil union, but no one minds when the straights decide to make up a new form of marriage entirely.

Covenant marriage is an optional upgrade of the social contract, and requires counseling on the way in and counseling and faultfinding on the way out.

it makes marriage stronger. So it doesn't suprise me. More importantly it makes people stay in marriages because we all know (:eyes:) one of the biggest problems facing today's youth is broken marriages. I wonder if any faith-based initiative money is spent on this?

And can someone tell me again how the GOP is supposed to be against big government?

7. I like the idea of counseling on the way in

but the rightwingers are going to go ballistic when the result of the counseling is people NOT GETTING MARRIED. Think about it---some are going to learn how to fix problems during the engagement, but lots are just going to learn that they shouldn't get married at all. Which is how our blue states maintain lower divorce rates than red states.

8. I personally am completely opposed to this.

The government has no business regulating our relationships. Our relationships, marriages, etc. should continue to be AT-WILL. Nobody should be forced to try to mend a relationship that they simply don't want, or would be unhealthy to stay in.

9. Louisiana and AZ have this, and the studies haven't been great.

Less than 3% of marriages are covenant in both states, and apparently the divorce rate is approximately the same. Basically, it's a waste of money to keep track of them.

*Covenant marriage laws. Those are new. The one in the news recently is from Alabama. Makes it harder to get divorced but doesn't fix the marriage problems. Especially harmful to women in abusive marriages. They can't get out. The main reason covenant marriages are getting press is due to the fact that women initiate the vast majority of divorces.
Covenant marriage teaches men rule the house.The man "covers" thier wife"Women's duty to provide sex and do itwhen he wants it unless she is sick/injured.

12. There were a couple of sponsors for a bill like this here in WI

who were also sponsors of the state anti-LGBT amendment. It lost steam when all the legislators who were on board with the anti-gay amendment were asked to "sign" covenants for their own marriages. It's clear many have no intention of honoring "til death do us part" in their own marriages, yet we're the ones destroying marriage. It would be funny if it wasn't so sick.

this just help insure they can't get away.
