Conservative Jews Mull Supporting Gay Unions & Ending Ban On Gay Rabbis

Leaders of the Conservative wing of Judaism reportedly will meet this week to consider dropping movement's ban on gays serving as rabbis and look at the possibility of supporting same-sex unions.

The New York Times reports that the issue will be discussed at a closed door meeting at an undisclosed site near Baltimore.

"This is a very difficult moment for the movement," Rabbi Joel H. Meyers told the Times.

Meyers is a nonvoting member of the law committee and executive vice president of the Rabbinical Assembly, which represents the movement's 1,600 rabbis worldwide.
