Falwell won't allow visit of gay-rights group to Liberty

A nationwide bus tour to promote gay rights at conservative Christian colleges may get off to a rocky start Friday when it visits Liberty University, which has announced the activist group is not welcome on its Lynchburg campus.

Haven Herrin, co-director of Soulforce's Equality Ride, said the 35 group members intend to go to Liberty's campus anyway to promote an end to discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students.

The Rev. Jerry Falwell, the university's chancellor, characterized the visit as a fundraising ploy and said he would not permit his school to be used for a media demonstration.

"The parents of our students have entrusted their sons and daughters to our care," he said in a statement. "Liberty has an obligation to these parents not to expose their children to a 'media circus' that might present immorality in a positive light."

Perhaps ol' Jerry should revert to his true form and stand outside the gates of Liberty College guarding them with an axe handle a la Lester Maddox.

Well he would know.
Many years ago I used to be on the jerk's mailing list. Not a week went by that he didn't send a letter requesting more money. It was always to battle some imminent threat to the "ministry" from liberals etc. Even his sorry flock of believers seems to think he's cried wolf a few times to often. I used to stuff all the crap back in the postage paid envelope and mail it all back. Sometimes he'd send out cassette tapes begging for money with his whole family. I'd make funny cut ups from them. And "media circus"? The guy is a traveling media circus. That and the 5 carloads of lawyers he travels with.

3. Oh Please. I admire this group's courage and devotion, but

of all places....Falwell University!??!!

Do they really think all of those brainwashed right wing conservative extremists would even consider drinking the gay tolerance koolaid, so to speak?

The group would be wise to save its gas money, and choose a less radical campus in my opinion.
