Gay Democrats Leader Steps Down

Eric Stern announced Monday that he is stepping down as executive director of National Stonewall Democrats.

"As a cancer survivor, my health has always been of paramount importance to me," Stern said in a statement.

"While I have not had any health-related complications, the last five years of constant campaign-related work have taken their toll on me and I need to take a break from politics before I completely burn out and risk damage to my health and well-being."

Stern indicated he was preparing to leave the organization last week at Stonewall's Capitol Champions congressional reception at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. The event, which raised more than $152,000 for grassroots electoral efforts, was the largest grossing fundraising event in the organization's history.
