Man Arrested for Partner’s Murder - 03/21/2006

Police have identified the body of a man found in Palm Springs last week. And Police think the man’s partner might be involved in the murder.

The body of John Baird was found Friday morning in a vacant lot near Sunrise and Baristo.

Last night, police arrested his partner, 28-year-old Brian Harwood. Police say Harwood admitted to getting into a violent fight with Baird shortly before the body was found. No further details are being released at this time.

"The mugshot looked familiar. The police press release called him a "murder suspect." To me, he was Brian, the guy sitting at the next barstool on Sunday and on Wednesday I still don't know what to think. Brian Harwood, 28, of Palm Springs, was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder, the cops' release read.

He was arraigned in Riverside County Superior Court on Wednesday, TV cameras capturing him and that same lost look I saw at the bar. Only this time he was wearing orange, not gray.

Police said there was a fight, that Harwood hit his partner with a brick, that they found the man's body in a vacant lot west of Sunrise.

Brian sat at the barstool next to mine on Sunday, drinking draught beer, playing suicide music, the bartender called it, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash".
