AFA attacks Wal-Mart over BBM
From the wackos at the AFA:

===============
Pro-Family Group Rips Wal-Mart for Promoting Brokeback

(AgapePress) - An official with a pro-family advocacy group is encouraging concerned Christians to contact Wal-Mart regarding the upcoming home video and DVD release of the movie Brokeback Mountain. He claims the retailer's plan to distribute the pro-homosexual film is evidence Wal-Mart has strayed from its family-friendly roots.

snip

Wal-Mart stores nationwide will carry the controversial movie when it is released on DVD. In-store posters and billboards are already advertising the upcoming release, scheduled for April 4. The movie, which opened in a limited number of theaters in early December, tells the story of two cowboys who carry on a homosexual relationship while maintaining traditional marriages. By Hollywood standards it was not a huge box office success (less than $90 million in the U.S. as of March 12), drawing much of its viewing audience in cities known to have large homosexual populations.
===============

Let the whining begin! Notice how they are still pretending that BBM wasn't a success? Yep, 90 milion, that's nothing. And I saw the movie in a fairly conservative area. The theatre was full and they weren't all gay.
And how's that boycott of Ford doing guys? Yeah I thought so.
Isn't it amazing that these supposed Christians don't have a problem with Wal-Mart's REAL anti-family policies, but get their panties in a bunch over a movie?

2. No, here's an even-better idea:
Let's boycott Walmart while attacking AFA!

3. And just how is the Agape Press an expert into
whether a movie is a 'huge" box office success? The christo-fascists, who have no inkling about misrepresenting the truth, apparently don't realize that Brokeback Mountain has passed The English Patient and is just under The Notebook in the TOP TEN romantic drama movies. . .and also ranks in the top 10 ALL TIME WESTERNS, just under one of the Back to the Future movies.

Fu*k those faux christians.

We need to watch how WalMart handles this - because if they do, Easter is almost here and we should strongly object to any "christian" displays within the retailer.

4. Gee, who could have seen this coming?
If the AFA boycotts Walmart, where the hell will all the red-state biddies go to buy those tacky "jogging suits" so incredibly misnamed when it comes to the sizes popular with aforementioned biddies who don't seemed to have "jogged" any farther then the refrigerator in their lives?

5. WAL will cut everything out. Eminem CD: almost nothing on it!
True, it did cost less, but per word, I bet it actually cost a lot more.

It certainly wasn't the real Slim Shady.

The real Slim Shady did NOT stand up.

You don't get real value at store owned by the Billionaire Walton family.

6. I guess all that will be left will be the sheep
I wouldn't buy anything at a Wal-Mart anyway. I tend not to buy schlock.
Still, anything that pisses off the loons at the AFA and the CWA is ok by me.
All they ever accomplish with these stunts is to create even more demand for whatever it is they are condemning.

8. These people need to STFU and get lives
If they would actually act like CHRISTIANS, e.g., help the poor, provide care to the sick, love their neighbors and the like, they would have no time for hate campaigns like this. But apparently hating is so much more fulfilling than any of that actual Christian behavior. :eyes:

It's only controversial in their tiny little minds.

10. That's just dumb
Why are these people threatened by any little thing. Everything is a battle to them. I bet the next great "battle" will be the war on Easter. They should make a movie about that and sell that at Walmart.

11. I gritted my teeth and pre-ordered 'Brokeback' from WalMart
While I ordinarily loathe giving WalMart any of my business, I figured if I went ahead about bought Brokeback Mountain from Wally World I could kill two birds with one stone.

First, I could give the finger to the venomous homophobes at AFA and, second, by spending money at WalMart for a very obvious gay-themed item perhaps I could show them that there's a market for out there that they miss out on if they pander to the red-state right.

Won't it be fun to what freeper heads exploding from coast to coast if, when it's released, Brokeback Mountain is the top seller for several weeks ... not ony nationally, but specifically at WalMart?

14. BBM supported by W-M
OK -- here goes -- I've held back as long as I can. I work for Wally: and I like it. I LIKE IT (with apologies to Carrie's mother)! Anywho -- the company has fully supported BBM and has it up front with the other major releases. There is a GLBT Employee Resource Group at the Home Office in Arkansas that is working to find market share for items of interest to GLBT customers, is educating the company on GLBT customers, and is working to make the company more attractive to GLBT talent. We are involved with HRC (some of our folks are at the HRC/Gill Foundation retreat in D.C. this weekend, for example, and we have a presence at the HRC Dinners --couple of weeks ago in LA, coming up in Atlanta, etc.), are planning a session for Out and Equal this year in Chicago, and are actively supporting the Point Foundation (scholarships for marginalized GLBT youths). SOOOO -- say what you will, this mo is OK with what is going on. I am excited about the future of the GLBT folks at W-M. My biggest complaint this week? I had to buy the new release of "Liza with a Z" at Target because Wally does not carry it. THAT was a pisser!!!

20. Damn!
No Liza?? Talk about a Queen-OD!!!

Seriously, I'm glad you have a good working relationship with La Wally.

I would LOVE for this info about Wally being so homo-friendly. Granted they're will never be a W-M in West Hollywood or SF. But if these fundies got wind of your 411 ...... ooooooo gurl ....

21. No Wally?
In West H-wood or SF? I gotta surmise this is due to local pressures, NOT the company. The lack of Company presence has nothing to do with the large gay populations of those areas. W-M will go where the customers are and where the communities support them. I can say I personally believe W-M would happily consider the areas you mention if there was a whisper of a chance there would be community support.

17. That will be as successful as the Disney boycott.
Which is to say a complete fucking failure. NO ONE who is a regular Wal-Mart shopper is going to boycott W-M just because of some asshole bigots who tell them not to shop there.

And I'll bet that BBM is a pretty brisk seller at Wal-Mart. I'd like to see the sales figures.
