HOLLYWOOD, CA - Fans of the WB will be able to watch the pilot episode of the new series Bedford Diaries in its entirety online, but that doesn’t mean they’ll get to see everything, including two girls kissing in a bar, in the episode that airs on television next Wednesday.
According to a report by Reuters, in the wake of CBS being fined by the Federal Communications Commission for airing an episode of Without a Trace featuring two teens having sex, the premiere episode of the new series has been edited… without creator Tom Fontana’s consent.
On Tuesday, the New York Times reported that WB Network chairman Garth Ancier asked Fontana to edit several scenes from the show, which co-stars four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald and Matthew Modine as professors at a New York college.
Fontana said he refused to edit the scenes, which included girls kissing in a bar and a shot of a girl unbuttoning her jeans.
“I told him I found the ruling incomprehensible,” Fontana told the Times. “He said the censor would do the edit. In more than 20 years in the business, this is the most chilling thing I've ever faced.”
