Gay Students Under Attack Nationwide
Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 04:30 PM by TechBear_Seattle
Bills that are pending or proposed in more than a dozen states across the country would restrict the rights of LGBT students.

In California, Republicans have proposed one of the most restrictive.

AB 2311 would prohibit the promotion of homosexuality in public education.

If passed it would silence any discussion about homosexuality or LGBT civil rights. A companion bill would moral and ethnic values of a dependent child's birth parents before placing the child for adoption or appointing a legal guardian.

...

In Idaho, state legislators are considering a potential law that would require students to get a parent's signature to join school clubs and organizations.

...

Similar bills aimed at blocking LGBT student clubs have been considered in Utah, Georgia and West Virginia.

The Georgia bill would require parents to sign off on any school club their child joins. In Utah and West Virginia the state legislatures adjourned without passing the bills.

1. But we believe in freedom and equality in this country.
Right?

So how much freedom and equality do these kids get to experience?

2. Politicians want ignorant constituents.
Next thing you know there will be laws passed to prevent children from learning to read. How else will our leaders be able to lead us around by the nose.

4. And firemen will start burning books
I've toyed with the idea of a rewrite of Bradbury's classic, "Farenheiht 451," in light of the Current Regime. The scenario seems less and less unlikely with each passing month.

Edited on Mon Apr-03-06 04:45 PM by DaveTheWave
..."gay people are entitled to the same equal rights as us (straights) because they can marry a member of the opposite sex any time they want to".

I wish I was making this up but I'm not. The conversation was last Friday.

6. Just like...
"The law, in it's wisdom, prohibits rich and poor alike from sleeping under bridges."

Or back in the early 70s when it was decided by the supreme court that insurance companies that refused to cover pregnancy related expenses were not discriminating against women because... wait for it... if men got pregnant they wouldn't be covered either.

Some people just need to be smacked upside the head a few times with something heavy.

7. That argument was tried before the Supreme Court once....
That blacks were forbidden to marry whites, and whites were equally forbidden to marry blacks. Therefore, no racism and no violation of the Constitution.

The Supreme Court shot it down hard. See LOVING v. VIRGINIA, 388 U.S. 1 (1967)

8. And....
...a long time ago you weren't even allowed to marry out of your social class. You can't win an argument with this guy or should I say, change his mind as all he responds with is the "it's written in the bible" excuse for anything he hates or disagrees with no matter what. Every time you ask him to explain himself or justify something it's the same "because it's written in the bible". How convenient and lazy can a person get and what a way to not have to think for yourself. It's a one size fits all excuse for them and they're told that it's all they have to say to us people who don't know any better.

It might be the same guy as he plays on the Internet and downloads pirated games and music more than he works. Such good moral, christian values and believe it or not, he'll give you "his" justification for why pirating music and software isn't really stealing which is a sin in the eyes of most christians and is against the law for everyone else.

to explain the christian concept of "LIE" as in "living a LIE" and how any christian in good conscience would claim that only those who live a lie to placate someone else's religious beliefs are entitled to equal rights.

10. OMFG...like there's just so much "promotion of homosexuality in
public education!" already. It's a huge fuckin' problem.

Yup, go to any school, and that's what they do all day....promote homosexuality.

The legislators who propose these laws are such filthy cowards.

Wow, it's so brave and commendable....proposing laws against minorities.

Why don't you asshole lawmakers get a life and do your job, and leave gay people the fuck alone? Bitch.

23. I'm not sure I understand your point. I was being sarcastic when
I said homosexuality is being promoted so much at public schools.

I agree with what you say, and the reason teachers never correct them is because gay tolerance is not taught in the public school system.

That's why any law to ban teaching tolerance is outrageous.

So we agree....I think

I love how telling kids that bullying gays, and/or telling them that being gay is not abnormal/sinful is "promoting" homosexuality.

Effing homophobic, hateful scum. :grr:

18. I'm a teacher and let me tell you...
... the first thing I do is figure out which of my elementary kids might be gay. Then I figure out which of the "straights" are the best looking and have the most potential for a fat financial portfolio later in life. Then, I spend all year converting the straights to the gay counterpoint I think will make the best couple.

At the end of the year, if I can get 50% of the class gay, I pat myself on the back.

In fact, I've done such a great job at turning straights over to the gay team, The Gay Agenda leaders have bestowed upon me the honorary toaster:

Now, if I were to "go gay" (you know, in fundie speak, people "go gay" because you're "born again, not born a gay" :eyes: ) I'd bet a much more stylish toaster:

Since I'm a Pastafarian and follow the Flying Spaghetti Monster, this is the toaster I really want (hear that Gay Agenda leaders?)

I shouldn't need to say this, but just in case, this post is dripping in :sarcasm:

That is the perfect gift!

Gay Agenda leaders, this is the perfect model for me. It's stylish, but not too stylish for a straight teacher. It would fit quite nicely on the kitchen counter of my kitchen. You can just imagine how large my kitchen is with all the money I earn turning straight kids gay and championing homosexuality to my elementary school kids.

Here's the web address where my gift can be purchased. http://ng.shop.com/op/~RETRO_Panini_Maker-prod-19772845 See Skinner and the DU leadership for my mailing address. I'll be expecting one to arrive shortly.

I should be doing more to promote the gay lifestyle to my kids.

Thanks for the inspiration. Now that we are nearly done with NCLB testing, I can focus on this for the rest of the year. 35 days left! I better get busy. LOL

29. What's the "promotion" of homosexuality?
What a stupid concept.

In addition, birth parents who give a baby up for adoption should have no say whatsoever in where the child goes, as they've abdicated their parental responsibilities. I hardly think that someone who has just had a child they cannot support or maintain is in a position to make good decisions for that child's "moral" future.
