Playboy To Go Gay

(London) Playboy is seeing pink and preparing to enter the gay market a London newspaper reports.

The Times of London says that the New York-based company will launch a gay brand in the UK. Playboy produces the world famous straight publication of the same name along with branded books and television.

The Times did not say what venue the company would employ, but reports that if the venture is successful it would be implemented in other regions of the world, presumably the US.

Notice that it will be started in the UK, which is significantly more liberal and open-minded than "the land of the free." How sad.

It seems this is not about a magazine, anyway, but with regards to the extremely lucerative video market. I have never seen a "Playgirl" channel before.

Even a casual perusal of the ads show that. A deeper look (at the articles!) will confirm it. Then again, "Men's Health" magazine is obnoxiously heterosexual, and the only people I've ever known to read it are all gay. :shrug:

Or try to put as much distance as possible between it and the established Playboy brand, I wonder?
(Not that I'm implying that Playboy readers are anything but totally secure in their masculinity or that something so small as a similarity in nomenclature across the hetero- and homosexual brands within Hefner's softporn offerings would cause the old Playboy readership anxiety.)
